"Cambridge consultancy helps plan the future for the UK's marine biotechnology"

BioBridge Ltd, the Cambridge-based international life sciences consultancy, has produced a report 'Prospects for Marine Biotechnology in the UK', for the UK's Foresight Marine Panel Biotechnology Group, the Department of Trade and Industry and South West England Regional Development Agency. The report has now been published on the DTI's web-site. It is the result of a year-long information-gathering exercise and analysis of the competitive status of the UK's research and commercialisation efforts in this area. It has led to a forward-looking strategy for achieving pre-eminence in identifying new opportunities for scientific and economic development through better use of our marine bioresources. Elements include strengthening of one or more centres of excellence, development of strong research and commercial networks and involvement of venture capital interests and sectoral associations in creating momentum. A co-ordinated communications strategy and establishment of cross-institution training are also seen as part of this new initiative. The 2-volume report (Strategy Summary and Information resource) can be downloaded from http://www.dti.gov.uk/sectors_biotechnology.html#prospects
